Program Philosophy

Justin-Siena's program has a team-based focus, rather than purely an individualized emphasis. Within that team dynamic, there is a spotlight on each competitor’s path to reaching their own potential through 100% effort, determination, the mastery of skills and camaraderie. How to be a great teammate shares equal importance with how to be a great athlete. Goal setting for both the team and its individuals, and the work necessary to achieve those high standards, is the basis of our training. To be successful, athletes must apply themselves in the classroom and be good citizens in the school community. They carry all these things across the finish line.

Meet the Coach

Tracy Martin enters her 9th season as the Head Track & Field Coach, having spent the previous 5 years as an sprints and relays assistant. In those 14 years, 34 track and field school records have been set by the team as a targeted goal for the program. Martin has spent twenty years as an All-Level Running Mechanics Coach, four years as a Club Coach, and ten years as an Invitational Director.  After both the Boys and Girls teams won VVAL Championships with undefeated records in 2021, the girls team has continued their dominance with league titles in 2022, 2023, 2025 and 2026.   The combined girls and boys teams won the Napa Valley Championships in 2024, and the Rotary Championship in Pacific Grove in 2025.  Thirty Justin-Siena athletes qualified for NCS Redwood Empire on average, while over twelve athletes/two relays further qualified for the NCS Meet of Champions in each of the past six years. Five JS athletes have competed through to the California State Championships in the past 5 years.

Martin was a Track & Field athlete herself, competing in High School and club track and field in the 200m, 400m, relays and the long jump. Martin also competed collegiately at the University of California, Santa Barbara in the 400m, 800m and Long Jump. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from UCSB in Communication, and enjoyed a career in sports marketing. Along with coaching at Justin-Siena, Martin continues to instruct improved running mechanics for all levels and sports. Contact Coach Martin at tmartin@justin-siena.org
