Program Philosophy

The Girls Basketball program is built on hard work, commitment, and a team-first mentality. Our goals are based on working hard to improve yourself and the team every single day. We view effort as essential and hold our coaches and players accountable to bringing their best effort every single day. We believe that our teams should be fundamentally sound, tough, and intelligent. We achieve this through a summer program based on skill development and team activities, a fall conditioning program, and intense practices intended to push players to be their absolute best. We also strive to be great in the classroom, model leaders on campus, and involved in all aspects of the school.

Basketball is not easy, however it is incredibly rewarding and we welcome any player into our program who is willing to work hard, sacrifice personal glory for team achievement, and be a part of something bigger than themselves.

Meet the Coach

Coach Bettencourt returns for his 7th season as the head basketball coach for the Braves and 16th season overall in the program.  In his time in the program he has been a part of several league, North Coast Section and NorCal contending and champion teams.  As head coach he was named the Napa County Coach of the Year after guiding the Braves to the MCAL title in 2015.  As an assistant, he was a part of the historic 2013-2014 team that won the MCAL regular season and postseason crowns before going on to win the NorCal state championship that year. Overall he has been a part of four league champion teams in the basketball program.  In his time at the junior varsity level he guided the young Braves to four consecutive first place finishes including back to back undefeated league seasons in 2008-2009. A JS class of '02 alum, Coach Bettencourt played four years of football at JS and was a member of the 2001 section championship team.  Personally, coach holds his BA in History from Sonoma State University and works full time at JS as the Coordinator of Alumni Relations and the Assistant Athletic Director at Justin-Siena. He is also a senior advisor.  Contact Coach for more information at
