Program Philosophy

Playing Girls Basketball at Justin-Siena is a privilege that is earned. Being a Brave, you are part of more than a team, you are joining a family. Our focus will be daily improvement through effort, guided development, and a culture based on the team being more important than any one player or coach.

  1. Positive Experience
    1. Defined by Growth
      1. On the court Growth
        1. Player individual improvement of skills
        2. Player improvement in team play
        3. Understanding of team concepts and schemes
      2. Off the Court Growth
        1. Maturation and ability to be an unselfish member of the team
        2. Learning to be a part of something that is bigger than themselves
        3. Positive academic growth that puts the student in position to succeed in college and in life
  2. On-Court Success
    1. Team improvement throughout the season and becoming a whole that is more than the sum of its parts.
    2. Being competitive with the top teams in our league, our section, and CIF State competition.

Meet the Coach

Coach Andrew Bettencourt '02 returns for his 10th season as the head basketball coach for the Braves and 19th season overall in the program.  In his time in the program he has been a part of several league, North Coast Section and NorCal contending and champion teams.  As head coach he was named the Napa County Coach of the Year after guiding the Braves to the MCAL title in 2015.  As an assistant, he was a part of the historic 2013-2014 team that won the MCAL regular season and postseason crowns before going on to win the NorCal state championship that year. Overall he has been a part of four league champion teams in the basketball program.  In his time at the junior varsity level he guided the young Braves to four consecutive first place finishes including back to back undefeated league seasons in 2008-2009. This past season, the Braves went 12-14, earning a berth in the NCS playoffs.

A JS class of '02 alum, Coach Bettencourt played four years of football at JS and was a member of the 2001 section championship team.

Personally, coach holds his BA in History from Sonoma State University and is an alum of Justin-Siena.

Follow the Braves!
