Program Philosophy

The sport of water polo requires fitness and dedication, and teaches the important values of hard work and team communication. In coaching our athletes to push themselves and build up their teammates, they'll learn to not only be better players, but absorb lessons and strength that come from pushing yourself. Whether success comes from on-the-field wins, or individual effort; teamwork, sportsmanship and discipline are the true measures of the program's success.

First Day of Practice: August 8, 2022

VVAL Playoffs: October 25 and 27 (at Vintage High School)

NCS Playoffs: November 2-12

Meet the Coach

Casey Hughes takes over the Girls Water Polo program after spending the past 2 years as an assistant coach with the boys team. Coach Hughes played water polo & swam at Acalanes High School in Lafayette, where he was an All-American in Swimming. Coach was also a member of 2 Junior Olympic qualifier teams, played 2 years of water polo at Diablo Valley College, and played 3 years of club water polo at Cal Poly, where he was on a team that won Club National Championships in 2001. Currently, coach is a player and Chairman of the Board at Napa Masters Water Polo Club.

Coach graduated from Cal Poly with a BS in Architecture and currently works as an Architect at Hughes Architecture + Design in Napa. Casey and his wife Nicole have 2 daughters, Harper and Isla, along with a reasonably behaved puppy Obi. Several chickens complete the backyard garden at their house in Brown's Valley. In his free time Casey enjoys hiking, snowboarding or anything that gets him outside, and is looking forward to more travel in the near future.
