Braves Report: October 29 2018

Fall sports playoffs underway
TENNIS: Parvathi Shanker, Jena Curtola and Priyanka Shanker made up three of the top four seeds in the VVAL tournament with all three advancing to the semi-finals. #1 seed Parvathi Shanker (J-S) beating Miranda Gervin (Petaluma) 6-0, 6-0.  #2 seed Jenna Curtola advanced with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Casa Grande's Samveda Ruk and the #3 seed Priyanka Shanker shutout Ashley Hancock 6-0, 6-0.  In the semi-final round, Parvathi Shanker (J-S) beat Vintage's Jamie Pope 6-1, 6-0 and Justin's Priyanka Shanker shutout her teammate Jenna 
Curtola (J-S) 6-0, 6-0, setting up a finals match between the Shanker sisters tomorrow.  It will make the second straight year a league title match will be decided between two JS singles players with Curtola besting Shanker last season.  

VOLLEYBALL: The #4 seed Justin-Siena Girls beat 13th seeded Del Norte in dominating fashion in the First Round of the NCS tournament Wednesday night. The Braves beat the Warriors in all facets of the game setting up a Second Round match-up with University 3 nights later in Clark Gym. The Braves were able to take out the Red Devils in 4 sets advancing them to the NCS Semifinals Halloween night at long time MCAL rival Branson High School in Marin County. Julia Sangiacomo finished with 28 kills, 10 digs, 3 blocks, and 1 ace. Eva Cleary, Megan Hanson, and Peyton Newell all contributed in big ways to help lead the Braves. Wednesday’s game at Branson will be at 7pm. 

GIRLS WATER POLO: Clinched a tie of the VVAL title with a 15-3 win over Ukiah-their 9th straight win in league play.  The title is the team's second straight after winning the MCAL last year.  Against Ukiah sophomore Angelina Phinney had a a season high 7 goals to lead the team.  The team will travel to Newark Memorial Wednesday as the 12 seed in NCS D-II play.   
 
FOOTBALL: The Braves were awarded the 10th seed in NCS D-IV play and will play at long time playoff rival Piedmont Saturday.  The team ended VVAL with a 27-14 loss in their first ever game against American Canyon.  After falling behind 20-0 the team put a quick 14 4th quarter points up on a 48 yard Solomone Anitoni touchdown reception and yet another fumble return touchdown by Miles Williams.
 
BOYS WATER POLO: Finished their season with a spirited 11-10 win on the road.  With the win the team finishes with a 3rd place 8-4 VVAL record and appear poised to be a contender in the league for the foreseeable future.  

CROSS COUNTRY: The Boys and Girls Varsity teams competed in the VVAL Center Meet #3 at Alston Park this past Wednesday on Senior night. The girls finished 5th and were lead by Mia Vlamming who placed 16th with a time of 22:24.6. The Boys finished 4th with 133 points and were led by Sophomore Casey Petrobic who placed 14th with a time of 17:45.6. Cross Country will have their next meet Saturday, November 10th at Spring Lake Park, Petaluma. This will be the VVAL Championship Meet.
