Please join us in welcoming four new faculty members—three brand new to our community and one returning after some time away. In addition, read on for some staffing updates.
Staci Arriaga, choreographer and dance instructor, who has over 18 years of experience in dance instruction. She currently choreographs and teaches at the Woodland Opera House Theatre/Dance Annex and Napa’s own Lucky Penny Theater and will now add Justin-Siena dance classes to her repertoire.
Joining the Science Department is Elaine Cavalin with over 20 years of experience in science instruction. Elaine comes to us from Sacred Heart Prep in Atherton and has worked at Cardinal Newman and St. Vincent's High School. She will teach Biology, Honors Biology, and Chemistry this year.
Adding to our Math faculty, we are thrilled to welcome Samir Berbawy who got his teaching start in his native Lebanon and has since taught math and served in administrative roles at several grade levels up and down the west coast and for a time in Cairo, Egypt. His mission-oriented leadership skills and range of math expertise will be to the benefit of our students and we are thrilled he’s joined our community.
Returning to the Braves community is Allyson Wood who will be working in LSL and teaching World History and Religion. This is Allyson’s third tour of duty with the Braves having first taught at JS in the late 90s. She returns to us from a two-year stint at another Bay Area Lasallian school, St. Mary's College High School in Berkeley, followed by a time at Our Lady of Peace in San Diego where she serves as a school counselor and director of counseling. She has been busy this summer with LSL and preparing for the year ahead and is most excited to have students back on campus next week. We are thrilled to welcome her back.
Our Director of Transportation Tim Garcia has added two new bus drivers to his team operating the JS fleet. Please welcome Robbie Critchley and Darlene Jones as they are eager to welcome students aboard!
Next time you enter the CBC you will be greeted by a new face. Please welcome (back) Sue Kjeldsen, our new Main Office Receptionist. Sue worked a JS a number of years ago when the Main Office was in the Zeller Building (now the Napa School of Music) and is excited to return to the Home of the Braves.
Finally, if you have liked us on Facebook, read a Justin-Siena publication, viewed a Braves Bill, or are reading this publication now (
though this section is being written by David Holquin) you are blessed to have seen the incredible work of our wizardess behind the screen,
Eileen Mize, our Director of Communications. Come the end of August, Eileen will be leaving us for a position with the Dominican Sisters of San Rafael, not far from her San Rafael home, and is going back to the Sisters who educated her, and where she got her start in communications at San Domenico. Nearing the 20-year mark in Lasallian education, Eileen was named the first Director of Communications at Justin-Siena in 2010 (having been at Sacred Heart Cathedral in SF previously). Eileen has very much enjoyed her time at the Home of the Braves, expressing a fondness for the Brothers and the Lasallian mission and for the countless students with whom she was thrilled to work in a multitude of capacities. Eileen played a key role in developing the Justin-Siena logos and style guide we employ today, as well as countless other pieces of our Justin-Siena brand such as our website, Avanti magazine, admissions viewbook, and many other publications and print pieces, apparel, campus signage, and more. Having established the various Justin-Siena social media accounts, Eileen looks forward to keeping in touch with colleagues and alums on social media—and, of course, following the Braves. In addition, and because of the creative role she played in so many Justin-Siena events from fundraisers to theatre and more, she looks forward to returning for big events and theatre productions—and especially the brand new Taste of Justin-Siena coming in May 2020. From graphic design and photography to writing and editing, Eileen is a rare blend of “left” and “right” brain work, and her presence will be deeply missed and felt. We have posted a
job description for her replacement on the JS website, so please share with interested parties.
