2019 Faculty and Staff Awards and Honors

A dedicated, competent, and caring faculty is at the heart of Justin-Siena. Inspired by the work of our Founder, St. John Baptist De la Salle, the Patron Saint of Teachers, our faculty and staff breathe life into our mission to provide educational excellence in a Christ-centered community.
Justin-Siena is home to an extraordinary group of committed faculty and staff who care deeply about our students. Our teachers encourage and set high expectations not only for Justin-Siena students but also for each other. Congratulations to the following faculty members on these special end of the year recognitions. The following awardees were selected by students and peers.

The Brother Lawrence Award
Ms. Megan Alexander-Short ’07

The Brother Lawrence award is given to those staff members who serve tirelessly, often behind the scenes, to make Justin-Siena a wonderful place. This year’s recipient is described by her peers as:
  • This person has sought to grow in their role as a staff person who embodies the Lasallian spirit. She challenges herself to be her best each and every day. She is always ready to serve and is effective in connecting with students anywhere on campus. Her work ethic is one of dedication, efficiency, and quality. She gives so much but asks nothing in return. She is a model for all of us.
  • While any number of staff could and should be nominated for this award, I am always grateful for the work of this person. She exemplifies cherishes and cares for those with whom she works.
  • She gets things done. She is organized and focused. She loves all our students and is patient and kind to all. She has a true understanding of our Lasallian mission and lives it out in her life. She is also ALWAYS doing just a little bit more than someone else!
  • She is one of the rare adult Braves who walks both sides of the JS reality - admin and classroom. She holds all of us (especially our scholars) to high standards while gracefully and consistently making our busy school run smoothly and thoughtfully behind the scenes. She is a model to all of us of how to do your job well, thoughtfully, and honestly.
  • She is a behind-the-scenes assassin. I hear from various people that she does so much for them without recognition; basically it seems like the entire school would fall part without her.
The Holy Spirit Award
Ms. Marisa Bartalotti

The Holy Spirit Award is presented to a member of the school community who has modeled his or her life in a manner that exudes the gospel message. The students, staff and faculty describe this individual in this way. This year’s recipient is described by her peers as:
  • If you look up #allheart and there is this person’s face. She, consistently, day in and day out, 24/7, gives her best for others and with such cheer and happiness.
  • She shows tremendous care for her students, and goes to great lengths to ensure that they are taken care of, both academically and personally.
  • She is always happy and goes above and beyond to help
  • She is deserving of this reward. She fits the description so very well. She cares for students especially those who are struggling. Her students also benefit from her deep care and dedication.
Distinguished Lasallian Educator Award
Ms. Emily Ciabattari

The Lasallian Educator Award honors an educator in a Lasallian ministry who exemplifies the ideals of Saint John Baptist de La Salle in the 21st century, both pedagogically and spiritually. De La Salle realized that the mission required dedicated and committed individuals who were qualified educators, who understood their own dignity as children of God so that they could pass this on to their students, who could cherish and care for their students like older brothers and sisters, and above all, who were themselves committed to a life of faith and prayer so that they could lead their students in the spiritual life, inculcating living values.
This year’s recipient is described by her peers as:
  • She has worked very hard trying to bring our adult community closer. Unity is a fruit of the Holy Spirit.
  • She is simply everywhere! She pours out positivity with everything she is involved with.
  • She has grown in so many ways as an educator. She is willing to take risks and take on challenges in her developing her craft. Her love of her students is deep and manifests itself in the tremendous learning that takes place in her classroom.
  • A person who goes above and beyond and loves her "children of God." She always strives for best educational practices in the classroom and puts her heart and soul into all that she does. She's the best Cruise Director ever!
