George Gardner Wins MCAL Bobby Jones Award in Golf
George Gardner from Justin Siena receives the Bobby Jones Sportsmanship Award from MCAL.
In 2006, Tamalpais High School Golf Coach wanted to recognize the intangibles that Justin Siena senior Jimmy Cacho brought to the game through his love for the game, talent and sportsmanship. He asked the other coaches if an award could be given to a graduating senior for sportsmanship and suggested the name, the Bobby Jones Sportsmanship Award. The coaches agreed and also voted that future candidates would be nominated by coaches and voted on as a group.
The coaches decided this award was to be given to the MCAL senior golfer who best represents the values of integrity, courtesy, consideration for the players and sportsmanship during his high school career. A perpetual trophy will be given to the annual winner and his school will display this trophy during the following year in recognition of his achievement.
“It is a great honor to receive this award, and George deserves it ” said coach Ray Graziani. “George exemplifies the meaning of this award, his intergirty is without question, he has a love of competing and a great respect for those he competes against and his love for the game is infectious. I loved having him play for me and I will miss having him around. George is the most positive person I have ever known, and if you play golf you know how hard it is to be positive all the time. He was and is a great example for all those that play with him. In 13 years of coaching high school golf I have never been more proud of one of my players and have was never more honored than when I was able to present this award to George.
