Bringing Cell Biology to Life

Ms. Hepp’s sophomore biology students have been studying cells and cell division, and recently had a guest speaker who could really bring the subject to life.
Newly elected into the National Academy of Sciences and a professor and the Chair of the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of California, Davis, Dr. Jodi Nunnari is an American cell biologist and pioneer in the field of mitochondrial biology. She gave an overview of the basis of life and went into the molecular biology. Then talked about new technologies with cell engineering, mutations, cancers, and CRISPR possibilities.  In addition to her high-powered research, she also teaches biology to non-science majors at UC Davis. According to Ms. Hepp, the students were especially impressed with new discoveries
