Announcing the Newest Members to the Hall of Honor

Andrew Bettencourt
We are excited for the opportunity to honor the newest members of the Justin-Siena Hall of Honor on March 12 in the Clark Gym. This year the inductees are Samuel G. Roberson Jr. ‘01 (Posthumous), Giovanni Guerrera ‘88, Timothy P. Malloy ‘87, Sean Pramuk ‘88, and Melissa Weakley ‘06. There will also be a short tribute to Br. Conrad Kearney, a Hall of Honor member who recently passed away at the age of 98.
Timothy P. Malloy is and continues to be one of Justin-Siena’s most prominent alums. Tim graduated from Justin-Siena in 1987 and went on to St. Mary’s College in Moraga, where he got a BS in Business Administration, graduating in 1991. Tim also met his wife, Christine, at St. Mary’s and they were married in 1994. In 1997, they welcomed Morgan Alexis, also a Justin-Siena alum (Class of 2015), and in her third year at Saint Mary’s College where she is a member of the Gael’s Women’s Basketball team. In 2007, the Malloy’s welcomed Thomas Biron, currently attending St. John’s Lutheran in Napa.

Tim is a partner at Malloy, Imrie, and Vasconi Insurance Services, a company that was the first member of the Napa Chamber of Commerce, has been in his family since 1911, and was started by his great Grandfather. Tim also was a member and Napa Chapter President (2000) of the Active 20-30 International Club, which is described as an organization that provides young adults with an opportunity for personal growth, friendships, and leadership development while improving the quality of life for the special needs children in their community. While a member, Tim was a National President of the Year Runner Up (2000), Napa Member of the Year, National Member of the Year Runner Up, National Public Speech Champion, and International Public Speech Champion (2001). Tim also received the Active 20-30 Past Active Life Award in 2010, the highest honor given by Active 20-30 International. Tim has also served as a Justin-Siena Foundation Board member since 2015.

In addition to his professional and community involvement, Tim has dedicated much of his adult life to coaching at both Justin-Siena and St. John’s Lutheran. At St. John’s Lutheran, Tim coached Girls Basketball from 2007-2011, and Boys Basketball from 2014-2017. At Justin-Siena, Tim coached Baseball in 1994, and again, from 2012-2015; he coached Boys Basketball from 1995-2007, and 2009-2014 as both the JV head coach (1995-1999), and the Varsity Assistant (all years). For the 2017-18 season, Tim continued his commitment to Justin-Siena as the Varsity Girls Basketball Assistant Coach.

Melissa Weakley was an involved student at Justin-Siena participating as a member of the Swim and Cheer teams. Her interest in being active in the work of social justice began with a Service trip to Mexico, led by Mr. Thom McDermott. On this trip, Melissa and her fellow students helped build new buildings for schools in Tijuana. Melissa continues to volunteer for the Shannon Nicole Lemieux swim scholarship program in memory of her friend. She graduated with honors from Justin-Siena in 2006.

After Justin-Siena, Melissa expanded her horizons beyond Napa to include academic and service work around the world. She earned a BA in Sociology from San Diego State University, where, as a Board member with her Sorority, Delta Gamma, she raised funds and awareness for the local school for the blind. She pursued an MA in International Relations from Webster University, Bangkok Campus, and during her time on there, Melissa also studied in Leiden, The Netherlands. Her graduate thesis focused research on human trafficking, developing up to date data and information on an international level. Her volunteer work for Habitat for Humanity began as a construction volunteer during her time at San Diego State and then took her, as a 2009 Global Village volunteer, to Kanyakumari, India. The funding support for this trip came, in part, from the generous contributions of some faculty and staff at Justin-Siena. Melissa has visited 39 countries, including the Ho Chi Mihn trail on a motorcycle, riding an ostrich in northern Thailand, and zip-lining in Costa Rica.

Professionally, Melissa has combined her educational achievements with her love of travel and passion for social justice. She has been a Program Manager at the Center for Girls in Chiang Khong, Thailand. There she worked on a program called “Women for Change,” an impactful women’s empowerment and anti-gender based violence program. She has continued to work on anti-human trafficking programs for at-risk high school age girls and migrant workers in the Golden Triangle region of Laos, Thailand, and Myanmar.

Currently working for the San Francisco offices of the Asia Foundation, an international development organization working throughout 18 different countries in Asia as an individual giving and TAFT2020 Campaign Associate, Melissa is on track to help raise $50 million by 2020 to support international development programs. She is also an English teacher, helping children living in China, ages 4 through 12, learn the language through a virtual classroom.

Samuel G. Roberson+ played 4 years of football, 2 years of baseball, and 1 year of basketball while at Justin-Siena. He was a member of the 2000 North Coast Section Championship winning Football Team. Sam also performed in theatre while at Justin-Siena, graduating in 2001.

Sam defeated leukemia twice, early life, but went on to have a very full high school experience. After Justin-Siena, Sam attended Howard University and won the Outstanding Development as an Actor and Mr. Theatre Arts awards in 2005. Sam worked and performed at the Children's Theatre in Minneapolis from 2005-2008 and moved to Chicago in 2008 to continue his acting and theatre career. He used theater to deepen his civic and social justice engagement, performing in shows "The Ballad of Emmett Till", "Living Green", and "The Lost Boys of Sudan". Sam worked at the Congo Square, where he was named the Artistic Director. He directed shows such as, "Twisted Melodies", "The Oak Tree Runs Red", and his latest, "The Scottsboro Boys."

Sam’s crowning achievement in theatre was that he wrote a One Man Show called "And They Said I Wouldn't Make It". A play about his life with cancer that sold out in theatres nightly. He also wrote a play called "Same Difference" about college roommates coming from different backgrounds. Sam started a foundation called MP3, the Make Me a Match Foundation, where he campaigned to generate more bone marrow donors, particularly for African Americans. Unfortunately, health issues were a theme in Sam’s life and claimed his life last spring. Sam was the recipient of many awards in his 33 years of life, including the 3arts Award, TCG Young Artist of Color, and won a cultural community partnership grant. Sam, an actor, play writer, artistic director, and philanthropist, lived a survivor's life as a champion for himself and others and his legacy lives on in his work, his friends, and his family.

Giovanni Guerrera and Sean Pramuk graduated from Justin-Siena in 1988, not knowing that their story was just beginning. They have combined their talents and experiences over the years to better the community in which they work and live. Gio and Sean have used their expertise with food to provide much more than successful restaurants. Through their unique vision, they have combined culinary and business talent with a passion for helping others, designing a business model that not only thrives as a restaurant, but also as a professional training ground for for at-risk teens and young adults gain valuable skills as a means to improving their lives through hard work and commitment.

Giovanni Guerrera has worked in the kitchen since he was old enough to roll dough. He started at very young age working Sam’s House of Pizza, a restaurant on Jefferson Street that was owned by his parents. After graduating from Justin-Siena, he took over full operation of the restaurant, managing it until 2001, when he decided to reunite with his classmate from Justin-Siena, Sean Pramuk to form a business partnership. They purchased Uva Trattoria in downtown Napa, where they worked together until 2009, when Gio moved to Italy to work as a Sous Chef at the American Academy in Rome. As an instructor at Alice Water’s Rome Sustainable Food Project, Gio helped to prepare meals based on locally sourced, seasonal ingredients, and was profoundly inspired by the results.

Sean Pramuk is the “front of the house” expert in this partnership. Since his graduation from Justin-Siena, Sean has worked at Piatti in Yountville, Sacramento, and Kauai, as well as at The French Laundry in Yountville. More recently, he worked at Frog’s Leap Winery in Rutherford. Sean managed the front of the house at Uva Trattoria, which he owned and operated with Gio from 2001-2009. Together, they made Uva Trattoria a destination for great food and entertainment. Gio reached out to Sean upon his return from Italy with the idea of creating a new business model. The successful result is Foodshed Pizza and Pasta, a restaurant that fulfills Sean’s need to be a part of a community oriented and ground-breaking project. They opened the restaurant in Napa’s Corporate Park in July, 2013 and remained there until 2015, when they moved to their more visible location, just off Trancas Street, on Old California Blvd, just a stone’s throw from the Justin-Siena campus.

The initial goal was to serve delicious, house-made food, while expanding opportunities for at-risk youth and aspiring young chefs. After only one year of operation, over two dozen applicants completed Foodshed's culinary internship program. Many of them secured employment in the local service industry (including at Foodshed), and some quickly earned promotions. Foodshed had also been featured in local and Bay Area press and contributed over $40,000 to local nonprofit “On The Move”. With amazing meals to go and catering for off-site events, Sean and Gio are popular members of the Napa community.
