It’s been a busy two weeks since Br. Christopher Brady, FSC returned to Justin-Siena—in time for Homecoming—upon the announcement made by Br. Donald Johanson, FSC, the Visitor of the District of San Francisco New Orleans, naming Br. Christopher as our new principal. Happy to be back and to work closely with a talented faculty and staff, Br. Christopher is committed to student growth and learning and to building on the wonderful foundation of excellence and innovation that has been a hallmark of Justin-Siena these past 50 years.
A veteran administrator and no stranger to the Home of the Braves, having served as Dean and teacher in the early, formative years of the school, Br. Christopher is grateful for the opportunity to return to Napa. He vacated his post as Chaplain of Athletics for the Gaels at Saint Mary’s College where he also served as a Resident Advisor and as a member of the Capital Campaign Executive Committee, and graciously said “yes” to the call to serve.
Fortunately, he already knows his way around campus, but there are many new faces to meet. Br. Christopher has been a steady presence meeting with faculty, administration, and Board members; meeting with students at lunch and break and moments in between. Quick with a smile and a great listener, Br. Christopher has learned much about campus culture and appreciates the passion and spirit he’s witnessed. From the energy of the cheer and football teams at the Homecoming game and the alums he reunited with on the sidelines to various informal parent introductions and interactions with faculty, he knows we are all heart.
“It was immediately clear to me that the student culture here is rich and vibrant. From the Homecoming festivities and opening of the fall theater production to the efforts of seniors closing in on college applications, campus is alive. The spirit of the students gives me great hope for the days ahead.”
Understanding that his arrival has come at a challenging time, Br. Christopher knows there is healing that needs to happen and is happening. He is listening intently and grateful to the many who have reached out to welcome him. He is committed to moving forward together. He will be drawing on his years of experience in school leadership, which includes providing stability during challenging times at other Lasallian schools, as well as his own sense of vocation. As it is National Vocations Week, Br. Christopher reflects on his own calling—to serve the young people entrusted to his care.
A Bay Area native, Brother Christopher was first introduced to the De La Salle Christian Brothers as a student at San Francisco’s Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory. From there he completed his undergraduate work at Saint Mary’s College in Moraga earning a BA in Government and went on to earn a Master’s in Private School Administration from the University of San Francisco. He has had the pleasure of serving at a number of Lasallian schools in his teaching and administrative tenure. He has served as Principal at Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory in San Francisco and De La Salle High School in Concord, and La Salle High School in Pasadena.
Brother Christopher Brady remembers his time at Justin-Siena with great fondness and maintains today many relationships formed during that time. “As a De La Salle Christian Brothers, the virtue of Providence has struck again,” he shared upon receiving the invitation to serve and immediately accepting. “My heart has been warmed by the smiles of the students who greet me each day as they prepare for class and pass through Patrons Plaza or the Breezeway. The student energy here is invigorating, and I look forward to the days ahead.”
There are a couple upcoming opportunities to meet Br. Christopher if you haven’t yet already. He looks forward to addressing the student body at an upcoming assembly. Parents are invited to one of three receptions in the Welcome Center (see below for details), and prospective families can meet him at an Open House scheduled for December 5 from 6:30-8 pm in the Dining Hall.
Sempre Avanti—the Justin-Siena motto that appears on our school seal means “always forward.” It is in that spirit we welcome Br. Christopher Brady and work together to advance our Lasallian mission and further our commitment to delivering an education that is personal, experiential, and whole.
