After a series of professional days for faculty and staff and orientations for each class and parents, we officially opened the 2017-18 academic year with the first day of class on Thursday, September 17.
On that day, as we begin all things as Lasallians, we gathered in prayer at the Opening Day Prayer Service in the newly renovated Clark Gym. It was at the Prayer Service that the Gym was officially blessed and re-opened, and everyone marveled at the transformation of this much-used space.
We especially welcome the 131 members of the Class of 2021! Arriving at Justin-Siena from 34 different schools, 4 countries, and 3 counties, the class is 50% male and 50% female and 100% ready to be Braves! Kudos to the those who were just elected to serve on the Freshman Class Council: Keith Binz, Genesis Celaya, George Khoury, Lina Phinney, Emma Routhier, and Cate St. Jean. We also wish to thank Sam Boeschen, Jo Escamilla, Natalie Han, Emily Herriott, Sarah Pyrce, and Bianca Rubio for their courage and effort to run as candidates.
With the Class of 2018 taking their rightful place as seniors and leading and modeling for others, a tone was set from the very beginning. Student leaders addressed faculty and staff, parents, and their fellow students laying out their ideals for the year. Building on the theme of being “All Heart” which was introduced last year, students further challenged each other as to what it means to be “All Heart.”
“Being All Heart means two things at the same time. It is about making the most of what we have been given, regardless of our starting points. And, as we become all we were made to be, we live our lives for the benefit of others. We are All Heart. We are driven and selfless; relentless and altruistic; for self and for others. We do well to do good.” Thanks to our student leaders for so beautifully articulating this year's #ALLHEART focus: WE WILL. All Justin-Siena students WILL "fight, press on, and earn it, together" this year and beyond—that's what it means to be a Justin-Siena Brave. Student leaders talked about what it means to really earn something; to work hard and fight for what is right. As students donned the new red shirts with the “We Will” message, there was a sense of school pride and promise for a great year. Way to go Braves! WE WILL have a great year!
