Mandarin I
Thao Bui ’18 (3rd place)
“The Mandarin Speech Contest is really fun. It proved that I can do the thing that I thought I could never do. It's a good chance to work on my confidence and public speaking skills.”
Calvin Dellenbach ’20 “It was a ton of fun and a good experience. Everyone did a very good job.”
Marianne Fernandez ’20 “It was a great experience that can really help you grow as a student. For people that didn't go, as advice don't last-minute memorize your speech and say your speech faster. Don't let other speeches get you nervous because it will kind of mess you up, but I believe that it was a lot of fun.”
Helen Neidhoefer ’20 “The Mandarin Speech contest is very fun. I would say to other students who haven't gone to not get too worried and nervous that you are going to mess up and just do your best.”
Jocelyn Stojack ’20 (Honorable Mention) “I feel very confident and proud of myself for competing in the Mandarin Speech Contest. I highly recommend competing in it next year if you couldn't make it this year. It was a lot of fun and it helped me build my confidence in speaking Mandarin.”
Ila Sharp ’20 “The Mandarin speech contest was a great experience. It took some work to memorize the speech, but it was definitely worth the time. It helped me better understand what I was saying and built my confidence in speaking.”
Mandarin II
Lauren Yung ’19 “I think the Mandarin speech contest is a great experience and fun. You need to practice it a lot. I recommend going at least once before you leave high school.”
Victoria Su ’18 “The mandarin contest was really fun and I enjoyed the challenge to my knowledge of mandarin. I encourage anyone learning mandarin to try this contest out even if you don't do well. Practice makes perfect and you get to see other kids in California trying to learn the same thing you are.”
Mandarin III
Ryan Mulcahy ’18 “I enjoyed representing my school in the contest, and I was glad to be part of it.”
Juliette Nast ’18 (Honorable Mention) “Participating in the Mandarin Speech Contest for 3 years now has been an incredibly rewarding experience. Preparing and presenting my speech has helped me build confidence public speaking and provided an outlet for me to practice Mandarin beyond the classroom. I also really enjoy spending the day with friends and classmates as well as performing in the talent show. I would recommend this program to anyone who loves learning and speaking Mandarin and wants to improve their language skills!”
Thanks to Ms. Li and all her students for representing the school so well! Way to go Braves!
