Meet Our Students

Emma Grace

"I knew that I had made the right decision. I was welcomed with a team of teachers and students who cared for me as a person; I wasn’t lost in a crowd anymore."
How did you get to JS:
I started at Justin-Siena my sophomore year. I began my high school career at Napa High, by spring of that year I knew that something needed to change. I was searching for structure and values and wasn’t able to find that. I started to reach out to my friends from middle school who were attending Justin. They raved about the sense of community and how they felt they were part of a family. That did it. From the very start of my sophomore year, I knew that I had made the right decision. I was welcomed with a team of teachers and students who cared for me as a person; I wasn’t lost in a crowd anymore.

College:  Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, Los Angeles

What do you plan to study?  business and fashion design

What was your favorite class at JS?
Each course that I took at Justin was significant to me in its own unique way. One that stood out to me as a creative individual was the Film Studies course led by Mr. Pierotti. Most students say before taking the course, “Oh you just get to relax and watch movies,” which is true for some part, but that only scratches the surface. On the first day we watched A Trip to the Moon by Georges Méliès. At that moment my creative world opened up. The film had art, history, design, music, and many other elements that I wasn’t aware films carried. Over the course I learned to appreciate the artistic and historical aspects of film, which I will take with me in my career in the fashion industry.

Where would you be found on campus?
You can find me on Siena lawn sitting on a blanket with my friends listening to music in the warm seasons. On gloomy days you can find me in the cafeteria!

What is your favorite JS memory?
One memory that stands out to me was going on the sophomore retreat. It gave me the opportunity to make connections with peers who I wouldn’t have if it weren’t for the life-changing experience we went through as a family. Serving at St. Anthony’s not only grew my appreciation for the struggling people in the Tenderloin, but also for my classmates. Together we witnessed parts of the world from which many of us had been sheltered and because of that our love and appreciation for our families and community grew. It sparked in me, as well as my peers, a thirst to help others and to continue to make our world a better and safer place.

What is your favorite thing to do at JS?
I love to take part in the activities offered during our break times. At least twice a month we are surprised with a new activity or game that is open to everyone. School is challenging and can be overwhelming at times, but Justin has made an effort to reward and encourage the students.

Why Justin-Siena?
If you are looking for a school where you will be supported through every step from freshmen to senior year, where peers are family, and where teachers want you to succeed and will do everything in their power to make sure of it - Justin Siena is the school for you.

Advice to JS Students:
Be yourself. That's what you are best at and the more you let your true self shine through the happier and more successful you will be.
