Volleyball Takes Our Mission to Heart

Recently Coach Anibale and the girls volleyball team participated in a mission focused event with other Lasallian schools. Serve It Up is an incredible opportunity for our student-athletes both on and off the court. Last Friday, the varsity volleyball teams from four Lasallian schools: Sacred Heart Cathedral (San Francisco), Christian Brothers (Sacramento), Saint Mary's College High School (Albany) and Justin-Siena met at Sacred Heart Cathedral for a day of service.
After the community outreach, student-athletes gathered in their service groups to reflect and share their experience with the large group. Then all of the teams shared a meal together.

SHC organized three different service projects and players were divided into different service groups. Within each service group there was 2-3 players and a coach from the 4 participating schools.
Service Projects:
De Marillac Academy - Players walked down to De Marillac Academy, a K-8 tuition-free Lasallian school serving underserved youth in the Tenderloin. The high school players escorted the 5th-8th grade volleyball players from De Marillac back to SHC and gave them a private volleyball clinic.

Glide Memorial - Players walked down to Glide Memorial Church and served meals to the city's poor, homeless, and hungry. Glide serves more than 2, 000 meals a day.
Food Outreach - Players made more than 400 bag lunches (PB&J sandwiches, granola bar, orange, water). Then they carried the lunches and socks (collected in a mini-sock drive) to the Tenderloin district and handed the meals and socks to anyone in need.

On Saturday, the four schools participated in a competitive, round-robin volleyball tournament and concluded the weekend by sharing another dinner together with each other and their families.
