Visual Art Show Coming to Spotlight Gallery at Napa Valley Museum

More than 100 Justin-Siena visual art students will have their best work in exhibition in the Spotlight Gallery at the Napa Valley Museum from April 21 through May 1. The show explores themes important to our youth today; their dreams, hopes for the future, and immediate concerns.
How does art fit into their lives? Is it through their dress; the music they play; how they move? This year students focused on contrasts—how is it visible? How are we faced with contrast in our lives, our community, in our expectations?

BraveArt represents the work of Justin-Siena art students during the 2015-16 school year. Art Instructor Monica Jacobson, selected work from a variety of classes; her beginning Studio Art, Advanced Studio Art, AP Studio Art and Graphic Design classes, as well as work from JSHS National Art Honor Society members. Multiple mediums are explored by the students including: graphite, pen and ink, prismacolor, water color, mixed media, acrylic painting, folk art inspired sculpture, wood relief sculptures and digital arts including graphic design, photomontage and digital film/video.

Also featured in the exhibit are non-traditional cellophane sculptures. These sculptures are meant to bring awareness to social justice issues important to students, as exploring themes in social justice is an important part of the Lasallian education experience at Justin-Siena. Working in groups, students have chosen issues of significance that resonate with them. The issues are not blatant, but require observation and subtle interaction with the audience. Students will be recording the reactions to the sculptures, questioning their placement, intention, and body language as communication. Some of the social issues chosen by students are vaping, depression peer pressure, school theft, teen anxiety, social acceptance, technology dependence, and diversity.

This special Spotlight Gallery exhibition is well worth a visit and we look forward to seeing you at the Napa Valley Museum in Yountville.
