Spring Sports Wrap Ups and Summer Schedules

Compiled by Andy Bettencourt
Congratulations to both our Boys and Girls Track teams for earning NCS Scholastic Championships this past year! The boys team finished the season with an overall team GPA of 3.4, while the girls had an incredible team GPA of 3.66! Proud of our Track athletes for getting it done both on the track and in the classroom!
Girls Lacrosse- The Girls Lacrosse team enjoyed a very successful season, finishing 2nd in league and making it to the Championship game of the VVAL, falling to Casa Grande. The Braves qualified for the North Coast Section Playoffs and were ousted by Carondelet in the first round. The Braves had many standout players including league MVP Allison Clark, first team All League honorees Kiran Monteverdi, Mia Vlaming, and Olivia Capiaux. 2nd team All League honorees Emily Heathcote, Karlie Wells, and Rachael Fitzgerald, as well as honorable mention honoree Anjali Monteverdi.

Boys Lacrosse- The Boys Lacrosse team had a historic season, finishing the league season in 2nd place and advancing to the VVAL Championship game. In the NCS playoffs, the boys went farther than any Justin-Siena Lacrosse team has before, beating Terra Linda and Bishop O’Dowd on their way to a berth in the semifinals! The boys fell short against Novato, but with a roster loaded with younger talent, the future is promising!

Baseball- The baseball boys finished the season with an exciting 5-4 extra-inning walk-off win over rival Sonoma.  It was the team's 4th walk-off victory of the season. In addition, they picked up wins over local foes St. Helena, Napa, and Armijo in 2019.  Individually the team sent three players to the VVAL/NBL senior all-star game with Tommy Lopez, John Horn and Luigi Albano-Dito all representing the Braves.  Albano-Dito also earned 1st-team All-VVAL honors on the season.

Softball- The season didn't finish as well hoped, with the Braves getting eliminated in the first round of NCS, by St Mary's College High School. However, the Braves did earn a home game in NCS, which made it nice for our team not having to travel. As for the VVAL, the larger schools present a difficult task for our young team during league play.  In the non-league games we placed 10-1 for the season against division 4 schools which are the size of Justin-Siena. We look forward to seeing what this young Braves team will be able to do next season.

Boys Tennis- The Boys' Tennis Team came back from a slow start in the VVAL to earn an invitation to the NCS Post Season Tournament. The Boys' team competed in the VVAL for the first time this spring. They went 2-4 in the first half of the schedule and about that time, our German transfer student Jakob Schultz qualified to play. From that point forward, the boys ran six straight match victories and earned a #13 seed in the NCS tournament. Providing senior leadership at second singles was Jose Chopitea with Nicholas Reyna holding down the #3 position. The biggest win was against Sonoma, where the boys won three of three super tiebreakers for a 4-3 win after losing 7-0 in our first meeting. Justin finished third in the VVAL a half a match behind Sonoma.

Track and Field- Our Braves track and field teams had a fantastic season. Among the highlights, both the Varsity Boys and Girls 4x100 relay teams broke the school records, as did Sydney Thweatt in the Varsity Girls 400m.  Gianna Troppy competed at the State Meet in the High Jump after becoming the undefeated MCAL Champion. She joined 10 other VVAL event champions across divisions, including Conrad Say in the long jump, and Landon Mispagel in both hurdle races. JV Boys won the VVAL Division Championship, while our Girls Varsity team took third place overall at the NCS Redwood Empire Meet, and our Boys Varsity team was fourth, besting all Napa Valley Schools and over 20 more north bay teams in both divisions. Eleven Athletes qualified and competed well at NCS Meet Of Champions to lock in a successful season.
