GIRLS LAX: Also earned the two seed in VVAL and currently rank 92nd in the state.  Their record stands at 12-6 overall and 9-3 in VVAL play, adding two wins by a combined margin of 45-19 last week.  Their 22-13 senior night win over Petaluma saw a bevy of players score and senior Kira Monteverdi and Allison Clark continue to lead the way.  Opening the VVAL playoffs with a 21-5 rout of the Windsor Jaguars the girls move on to the championship in league before awaiting their section seeding over the weekend.  Read about the boys and girls playoff opening wins here

BOYS TENNIS: The Boys tennis team is currently 9-4, 8-4 in VVAL, a half a match out of second place. The boys' started the VVAL season 2-4 and won their last six matches to get to 8-4. Jose Antonio and Jakob Schultz won the doubles championship last week, and there is no activity this week, except a few scheduled practices. TRACK AND FIELD: Track and Field team is rolling into VVAL Championships looking to be a top three team in League in every division.  They had great success at the San Mateo Bearcat Invitational, with Varsity Girls team taking second place overall out of 24 teams, and  Varsity Boys taking third place out of 25 teams. The Varsity Boys 4 x100 Relay team of Solomone Anitoni, Blake Hoban, Landon Mispagel and Conrad Say won first place at the Clash of the Titans Invitational in Oakland and smashed the school record with all-out speed, aggressive passes and an exciting finish.  With one day of VVAL Championships complete, Conrad Say is the VVAL Champion in the Long Jump in Varsity Boys action (20’7”), while Seth Morrison is the Junior Varsity Champion in that event with a 18’6” PR mark. Liam McDevitt battled to the High Jump Championship as well with a leap of 6’2”. TJ Schoningh won the VVAL Junior Varsity shot put Championship with a PR mark of 37’10”.  Many personal records were earned on the first day of the league prelims, and the team looks forward to more success at the concluding day of VVAL Championships. Gianna Troppy is the number one seed in Varsity High Jump and Discus, Landon Mispagel is the leader in both Varsity Hurdle races and our relay teams look to bring home top three medals in every division. Click here for the full report on the Senior Night action v Petaluma.

GIRLS SOFTBALL: Picked up a big non league win over Berean Christian to cement their status in D-IV as playoffs near.  In addition a special ceremony was held to bless the new field and Braves Grove as our athletics complex grows.  In the win, senior Victoria Politz hit two home runs and Claire Garcia worked the last 7 outs to record the save in the 9-7 victory.  The team is now 10-10 overall as they wrap up VVAL play and gear up for section playoffs.  Coach Garcia had this to say about the performance of the team so far this season, “This years team has shown a lot of courage to play with the large schools. The division 4 schools are a good competition for us, and we have done very well, against them.  I am very excited to see how the team does in NCS play coming up. We have 6 freshman that have never played before and we have used them in key roles on this team, all the girls have grown into their roles and have done an outstanding job, learning to play softball.” Senior Night is May 7 v Sonoma Valley.

BASEBALL: Picked up a cross-section win over D1 Armijo.  Trailing 8-2 into the fifth the inning the team rallied for 5 runs and then tied the game in the 6th on sophomore Noah Young's solo home run onto Solano Avenue.  Senior Tommy Lopez worked 6 innings of dtellar relief to earn the win and Christian Kappler got the walk off hit in the bottom of the 9th.  The team will finish their season and determine their playoff fate with 5 games in the next 10 days.  Senior Night is May 8 v Sonoma Valley.  Read about the win over Armijo here

SWIMMING: The Boys and Girls Swim team had Vine Valley Athletic League overall finishes of 5th place for the girls and the Boys taking 3rd place. Making this even more impressive is that combined the teams swam with only 20 swimmers this season.  All of the other teams outnumbered our team by at least 20! The win/loss record was a little lower than we would have liked by simple scoring design, but when it came to league, JSHS had a solid showing! For the Post season: Girls 200 Medley Relay and 200 Freestyle relay both achieved an NCS consideration cut but did not make the top 40 list.  Boys 200 Medley and 4 x 100 Freestyle relays made it in and will swim May 3rd at NCS. Iona Pascual will swim 200 IM and 100 Free as individual events in addition to the relays at NCS. Max Gilsenan will swim 100 Breast as well as participate on both relays.

GOLF: League play for boys golf came to an end on Monday at Silverado Resort. The boys finished the day in second place with a total score of 455. Rocco Lee led the way for the Braves with an 88, followed closely be Dominic Lee 89, Aidan Schuemann 90. Grant Koehler 92, Cole Stanier 96 and Sam Gomez 97. The Braves concluded the season with a 29-13 record for 3rd place in VVAL. Rocce Lee received All League honors for being one of the top 10 players in the league. The golf team now will wait to hear if they receive an At-Large bid for the NCS Div II Championship to be played at Peacock Gap this upcoming Monday.
