Braves in Action

Braves Report: November 5th

Football
The 10thseeded Braves went on the road to Piedmont High School and avenged a season opening loss by beating the Highlanders in convincing fashion 53-28 in the 1stround of the NCS Playoffs. The Braves were led by quarterback Barrett Donahoe who was 17-21 passing for 228 yards, 4 touchdowns and no interceptions. Solomone Anitoni had 2 touchdowns, to go along with his 75 yards receiving. The Braves led 27-7 at the half and stretched the lead to 40-7 midway through the third quarter. Michael Fitzgerald was big on the defensive end coming up with 2 interceptions, returning 1 of them for a touchdown. Next up for the Braves will be 2ndseeded Del Norte High School. The Braves will travel north to Crescent City to take on the Warriors Friday night at 7pm.  
 
Volleyball
The girls lost a heartbreaker at Branson in 5 sets in the Semifinals of the NCS Playoffs. Senior Shelby Thomason had 33 assists to go along with 3 digs, 2 blocks and a kill. The majority of those assists were to Julia Sangiacomo who had 41 kills, 4 blocks, 17 digs. While coach Reilley felt that her team came out a little timid, she thought they settled in after the first set and really competed throughout the match. The Braves have showed tremendous heart all year and Wednesday night was no different. While they came up short they did earn a spot in the CIF State Playoffs, which starts this week. They will be the 15thseed and will head to Nevada Union on Tuesday to take on the 2ndseeded Miners at 7pm. 
 
Water Polo
The Varsity girls earned a #12 seed in NCS Playoffs going into last week’s match against Newark Memorial. They lost to Newark Memorial 9-6 on Wednesday. The Braves were led by Megan Hansen and Sarah Reynolds who each had 2 goals, while Sophia Samson and Lexi Hollister added one goal apiece. The Lady Braves had a great year finishing as VVAL Co-Champions with a record of 13-11. Thank you for a great season Girls!
 
Tennis
Last week was the league singles and doubles tournaments.  During the singles tournament, Justin placed three of four semi-finalists as Parvathi Shanker, Priyanka Shanker and Jenna Curtola made the semi-finals.  Priyanka and Jenna squared off and Priyanka advanced to the finals to play against her sister.  Parvathi won the all-Justin finals with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 victory.  In the doubles tournament Justin placed three teams in the tournament, with Ashlyn Mills and Emelia Pavenstadt dropping their opening match.  The Justin team of Presley Schultz and Lucia Lanzafame won their first round challenge against Sonoma then dropped their quarter final match to the ultimate winners from Vintage.  The Justin team of Bella Rampa and Roses Newell won their first and second round matches before falling to Casa Grande in the semi-finals.Tomorrow, the girls' team begins the NCS team tournament at the City College of San Francisco against second seeded Lick Wilmerding, match starts at 3:30.
 
Cross Country
The Cross Country team will compete in the VVAL Championship meet on Saturday, November 10that Spring Lake Park, Petaluma. Hope to see you there!
