Not only did Justin-Siena visual art students create a collaborative and juried art show involving 6 local schools, but one of our artists took first place. Exhibit is on display through May 7.
"Outside Looking In," a student curated show by Justin-Siena art students featured artwork from Justin-Siena, New Tech, Sonoma High School, Vintage High School, Napa High School and St. Helena High School.
Justin-Siena art instructor, Monica Jacobson, sponsor of the local chapter National Art Honor Society invited students to participate in this exciting co-curricular project. Under her direction, students selected a theme for the art show, researched contacts from all the high schools in Napa and Sonoma counties, and solicited student art work, which included specifics for a digital image and written statement. There were more than 70 submissions. Students then took on the task of scorig the entries based on:
Technical ability
Artistic Intent
Originality of ideas
Use of Media
Alignment to theme
The talleyed scores determined the selection of 20 pieces of artwork for the exhibition in the Napa Valley Museum's Spotlight Gallery.
The judges were Jessel Miller of Jessel Gallery, and Yountville Art Commission Chairperson Kimberly Cook.
The Awards Ceremony took place on April 29. Kudos to Megan Steiger '17 who took first place for her digital painting ChiChi. Justin-Siena was well represented by art students Grace Haymond, Paul O'Neill, Jill Del Arroyo, Christian Ramos, Emily Heathcote, Donna Roscoe and Sam Ayar
