Justin Siena

Our Philosophy

Justin-Siena High School is a Catholic, Lasallian, college preparatory high school serving men and women from Napa, Sonoma and Solano counties.

Faculty and staff strive to serve a diverse ethnic and socio-economic cross-section of the surrounding communities. Parents are invited and expected to enter into partnership in both the responsibilities and the benefits of Justin-Siena's educational experience so that the school experience can effectively complement and build on the primary education that begins in and is sustained by the home environment.

God is revealed and found in many religions; but as a Catholic school, Justin-Siena adheres to the revelation of God found in the tradition and institutions of the Roman Catholic Church. Students and teachers are united through their participation in the process of Catholic education and by common faith in the Gospel. This unity is expressed in daily relationships and participation in religious activities.

The curriculum is directed primarily toward those students who intend to continue their education beyond the secondary level. Courses in the curriculum are designed to provide knowledge in a variety of basic disciplines, skills for clearer communications, heightened awareness of political and social concerns, personal and spiritual growth and encouragement in creative expression.

Teachers and staff are qualified to undertake the work of Catholic education by virtue of their academic preparation, by their generosity, and by their concern for young people. Teachers express this love by careful lesson preparation, thoughtful evaluation of student progress, and personal interest and involvement in the lives and activities of students.

The instructional process at Justin-Siena is approached with challenge, freedom, and respect. Students are challenged academically in order to help them realize their full human potential. They are given opportunities to discuss freely, present ideas openly, and examine opinions carefully, in order to develop confidence in their insights and judgments. Implicit in every interaction with students is a recognition of his/her worth and dignity. Faculty are committed to maintaining a warm and supportive learning situation.

Rules, regulations, and policies are designed to encourage personal responsibility and self-discipline within the school community. Freedom commensurate with maturity and responsibility is encouraged. Rules provide for good order and enhanced learning conditions, and reinforce the spirit of respect for self and others.

In addition to the academic program, students find a wide range of extracurricular and co-curricular activities in spiritual development, community service, athletics and the arts, through which they may be of service to others and develop and exercise personal leadership.

Administration and faculty are responsible to see that Justin-Siena's program, curricular and extracurricular, and mode of operations flow directly from the mission and philosophy.
