Ideal Applicant at Justin-Siena
At Justin-Siena, we are looking for students who desire a Catholic, Lasallian education. More than just getting kids into college (although we do that well), we also prepare students for life. Those students who want to have an education that is both contemporary, and rooted in tradition should consider applying.
We seek:
1. Motivated students
2. Students with strong character
3. Students of service
4. Students of leadership
5. Students of purpose
To the Justin-Siena Admissions Committee, motivated students means that there is demonstrated evidence that a student works to his or her best ability. While we have many students who are former valedictorians and straight A students, we also have students who might find academics difficult but who always put forth his or her best effort. We want to admit students who are motivated and who try in their classes - even a subject a student likes least.
The second criteria, students of strong character, refers to students who are good citizens in their school, faith, and local community. A student of strong character is cooperative in class, helps other students, is mindful of how his or her actions affect other people, and is willing to do the right thing.
The third and fourth criteria are taken directly from our school's statement of mission: service and leadership. Our statement of mission states, "Justin-Siena is a Catholic high school called to provide educational excellence in a loving, Christ centered community that prepares students to serve and to lead in an ever changing world." The call to prepare students to serve and to lead is taken seriously at Justin-Siena. It is not just words on a wall, but practical evidence of the type of student we want to admit and graduate. A student of service helps and thinks of others before thinking about himself or herself, and attempts to be helpful to the community. Students of leadership do not always need to be the class President (although they are), or the person standing in front of an audience. Sometimes the most effective leaders are those who lead behind the scenes, who inspire others by their strength of character and willingness to serve.
The final criteria, students of purpose, means that we look for students who see that their education has a purpose and that they, themselves, have a purpose. We want to admit students who recognize their own God-given gifts and talents that should be used in service, and who also see the value in the education they receive. The education a Justin-Siena student receives does not solely prepare students for college; it also prepares students for life.
Be inspired. Be challenged. Be brave.
