Foundation Facts
While many of you may be familiar with the Justin-Siena Foundation, you may be surprised to learn a few interesting facts about its history and mission:
"A separately incorporated nonprofit entity, the Foundation was formed in 1972 to establish and administer a perpetual Endowment Fund for the benefit of Justin-Siena High School.
"Thanks to the efforts of Bob Zeller and many other dedicated board members over the years, the Foundation's Endowment Fund has grown to $2.7 million in 2006.
"Under the guidance of the Board of Directors, the Foundation was the original fundraising arm of the school until the Development Office was created in the early 1990's. Now, the Foundation focuses on building the endowment, while the Development Office oversees the Annual Fund, fundraising events, and capital campaigns.
"The Foundation's goal is to increase the principal in the Endowment Fund to $20 million by the year 2020 to ensure the future growth of the school.
"Professional investment advisors are responsible for managing the endowment, with oversight provided by the Foundation Board of Directors.
"Individuals and families who have made a gift to the Justin-Siena High School Foundation through their estate plan are recognized as members of the Legacy Circle.
"Members of the Legacy Circle are acknowledged in the school's Annual Report and recognized at the annual President's Circle Dinner. A Legacy Circle donor plaque is being developed for permanent display in a prominent location on the campus.
Sempre Avanti
The Italian translation of "Always Forward" was selected for the school shield in 1966 when Justin-Siena High School opened. Forty years later, the Justin-Siena Foundation continues to forge ahead with its efforts to grow the school's endowment fund to $20 million by the year 2020. This ambitious undertaking will ensure the sustainability of Justin-Siena, enabling it to continue to provide a Catholic college preparatory education for an increasingly diverse population of high school students.
Lasting Impact
Contributions to the endowment fund make a difference in the life of every Justin-Siena student. With the endowment, we are able to open our doors to all qualified students regardless of their financial status; attract and retain top educators by providing competitive compensation and professional development opportunities; and, stimulate our students with thought-provoking curriculum taught in first-rate facilities.
Closely Managed
Professional investment advisors are responsible for managing the endowment, with oversight by the Board of Directors. The Foundation follows an investment strategy that preserves capital, encourages long-term growth, and provides sufficient liquidity for current needs. A determined percentage of the earnings are passed on to the school to be used for purposes that are restricted by the donor or in accordance with endowment fund priorities.
Always There
A financial safety net for our school, the endowment provides long-term support to handle unexpected expenses, as well as much-needed funds for tuition assistance, faculty development, curriculum enrichment, and facility upkeep. While the annual fundraising and periodic capital campaigns conducted by the Justin-Siena's development office are necessary components of the school's immediate financial picture, a healthy endowment is vital for future growth.
Giving Opportunities
There are three main giving areas that comprise the endowment: planned giving through estate or retirement plans and life insurance policies; memorial and commemorative gifts in recognition of past or present friends and family; and, donor designated programs, such as endowed scholarships and program endowments, which are consistent with the school's mission and the Foundation's policies.
