Creative Writers Take Prizes in Napa Valley College Competition

Congratulations to Sophia Quiñones ’17, Nathan Reynoso ’17, and Anais Gonzalez ’17 who all placed in the Napa Valley College English Department’s annual Jessamyn West Creative Writing Competition this spring.
Sophia took third place in the fiction category for a short story. Nathan and Anaise, both participants in Poetry Out Loud earlier this year, each earned places for writing in poetry—Nathan taking third place and Anais taking second place. The three attended a special awards presentation at the College on Tuesday, May, 17, 2016.

These young scholars seized the opportunity to have previously unpublished work reviewed by the contest committee in the areas of short fiction, creative non-fiction, or poetry.

In addition to cash prizes, all winners will have their work published in the 2016 Jessamyn West Creative Writing Contest Anthology published by the college. Winners will also receive free entry to all public events, including craft lectures and readings, at the 2016 Napa Valley Writers’ Conference (July 24-29). What a great opportunity for our young writers as they prepare for their final year of high school and those impending college essays. Well done, Braves!
